How To: Flush my cache and temporary internet files (Internet Explorer)

Many strange issues can arise when website content changes but your browser does not pick up on the change.  Whenever you have issues seeing a web page properly you may be asked to "clear your cache".  These instructions provide you with the steps necessary to clear your cache on a computer running Windows XP and Internet Explorer:

  1. Press the Widows Start button and select Control Panel
  2. If you are in Classic View, double-click on "Internet Options".  If you are in Category View, click on "Network and Internet Connections".  Then, at the bottom of the window, click on the icon for "Internet Options"
  3. In the new pop-up window titled "Internet Properties", look under the second section titled "Browsing History".  In that section click on the "Delete" button.
  4. In the next pop-up window titled "Delete Browsing History" make sure that ONLY the boxes for "Temporary Internet Files" and "Cookies" are checked.  Then, press the "Delete" button
  5. Wait a few moments for your files to be deleted.  When completed, you will be returned to the "Delete Browsing History" window and will NOT receive any confirmation that the process is complete
  6. Close all programs and windows, especially any open Internet Explorer windows
  7. Restart your browser and try loading your web page again
